An article from careerbuilder.com featured on CNN.com:
1. Ponder reasonable expectations for an entry-level salary. Research your desired industry and the jobs you’re interested in within that sector. Use Web sites such as cbSalary.com to find the average salary for the job you want, in the location you’re looking for work. Use that knowledge when deciding if a salary offer will be enough to pay the bills.
2. Consider the entire benefits package. “A salary offer is only one part of the compensation package,” says Dwayne Keiffer, assistant director of career development at Messiah College in Grantham, Penn. Evaluate the entire benefits package. Does the company provide insurance? Will it contribute to a 401(K) plan? How much vacation do employees receive?
3. Reflect on company quality. Job content and the quality of the organization you’re going to work for should take a backseat to most other things, says Shawn Graham, author of “Courting Your Career.” After all, you want the job that gives you the most options for your next career move. Compare job content, fit within the job and organization’s culture, opportunities for advancement and compensation before saying “yes.”

Governor Paterson showed up in NYC to show his support on Sunday. In his run as governor so far, he has made gay rights an important issue, specifically when he ordered that same-sex marriages from outside of the state be recognized in New York.

Although same-sex marriage is currently illegal in Arizona, the state senate has approved the ban to have a place on the November election ballot. If passed, the bill would amend the state constitution to prevent “activist” judges from setting precedents like the recent decision in California. In one of the longest legislative sessions on record, the state senate voted in a 16-4 decision to allow the vote:
“The long-anticipated vote on the measure followed hours of angry, raucous debate, in which the legislative rule book was used as a weapon to both stall the vote and cut short debate. Senators on both sides of the aisle and the issue lamented a melt-down in the higher chamber, as most of the day’s work was scrapped so that the marriage amendment could be voted on while key senators were present.”

Spain’s history of underachievement and misfortune in soccer came to an abrupt end on Sunday as the country’s squad clinched the European championship, in a 1-0 victory over Germany. David Villa, one of Spain’s offensive stars, was absent due to an ankle injury.
Fernando Torres, who plays for the club team at Liverpool, scored the only goal of the game, which won it for the Spaniards. Felicidades, España. ¡Sí, podemos!

Young gay men have seen an increase this year of 12 percent in new HIV infections. The rise was particularly visible in young African American men. The increase is suspected to be attributed to the lack of awareness and fear in the current generation about AIDS and its effects:
‘The double-digit increase in young gay men is about 10 times higher than in the homosexual community overall, where the number of new infections is going up about 1.5 percent a year.
The report, released yesterday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, appears to confirm impressions that a “second-wave” AIDS epidemic is underway in gay America.
“These men represent a new generation that has not been personally affected by AIDS in the same way that their older peers were,” said Richard Wolitski, acting director of HIV-AIDS prevention at CDC.’
