Effective immediately, the new bill repeals the 1913 law that banned couples from marrying in Massachusetts if their union was not legal in their home state. Governor Deval Patrick, who signed the bill, said he was proud to have supported it, and that “equal means equal.”
The article has a quote from a couple that lives in Middletown, NY which is the town right next to mine:
“We’re being recognized as a married couple,” said Joy Spring, of Middletown, N.Y., who planned to marry her partner of seven years, Carla Barbano, in Provincetown on Friday.
Their 11-year-old daughter, Lizzy, will exchange rings with the couple at the wedding.
“It’s extremely important,” Spring said. “If something happened to one of us she’d always be taken care of.”

Your mother may have told you otherwise, but shorts are the new dress pants, at least in the summertime workplace. The New York times dissects the new trend that makes it okay to show some man leg:
When the hockey star Sean Avery took an internship at Vogue earlier this summer, the work uniform that the fashion-besotted left wing chose included a shorts suit that showcased his athletic calves.
“Why go to work and be hot?” he asked last week, adding that there was no compelling business reason to look modest and dull on the job. “You can look good and not have that boring-type look,” said Mr. Avery, who signed with the Dallas Stars this summer after several seasons with the Rangers. “Why are women allowed to do it and not men?”

Begin the countdown to either a Lifetime movie or TLC reality show contract! Look at the poor boy on the left too. He has no twin!
The sets of twins, from Texas, fell in love, went on a double date to Las Vegas, and won thousands of dollars at poker.
Sensing they were on a winning streak, they got engaged on the same day, married at a joint ceremony (officially “quarternary marriages”), and built a pair of homes, side by side.
Soon afterwards, despite a million-to-one odds, Diane and Craig went on to have identical twins of their own - Colby and Brady, now seven.

U.S. officials have delivered a note to the Serbian government, with demands that Kovacevic, who fled to Serbia after posting $100k bail for felony assault charges, be returned to the U.S. within 10 days.
The note comes after warnings from NY senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton who told the Serbian Embassy ”that there would be significant consequences for Serbia if this matter was not resolved.”
An excerpt from the note reads:
“It is imperative that the [Serbian government] remedy these outrageous actions committed by its official representative, Igor Milosevic, and ensure the immediate return of Miladin Kovacevic to the United States for further legal proceedings and trial, not later than Aug. 1, 2008.”
