Former Republican presidential candidate and current Fox News anchor Mike Huckabee attempts to rebuff Ann Coulter’s claims, in an apparent reference to the Supreme Court’s 2003 Lawrence vs. Texas ruling, that the former Arkansas governor is “pro-gay.” Via ThinkProgress, emphasis theirs:
HUCKABEE: I am not, as you characterized me in one article, pro-gay, pro-sodomy. That is so not me.
COULTER: Yes, there was a Supreme Court decision. You said you agreed or disagreed with. Yes, I got you on that Mike Huckabee.
HUCKABEE: Nope. You didn’t. I am definitely not pro-sodomy. I promise, scout’s honor.
Scattered speculation has it that Huckabee may be gearing up for a fresh crack at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Should he be fortunate enough to succeed, with as bold an affirmation as this, perhaps Huckabee ought not count on the sliver of the LGBT vote that most Republican presidential nominees appear traditionally (and bizarrely) accustomed to. According to Log Cabin Republicans, John McCain received a staggering 27% of the gay vote in 2008.
