Binghamton theatre to feature play on persecution of gays during WWII

n617102455_1664011_2956Directed by Tim Mollen

Original music by Santino DeAngelo

BENT revolves around the escalating persecution of gay men by Germany’s Third Reich before and during World War II. We meet the central character of Max, who has been living an exciting and carefree life in the heart of Berlin’s vibrant and libertarian gay subculture. As the fascist government begins to round up, imprison and kill gays, a fateful mistake leads to Max’s flight, his capture, and his rail car journey to the concentration camp at Dachau. The story of his existence there, and the love that transcends it, makes for an amazingly powerful human drama.

Business Pundit’s 25 Hottest Women of Business

“For many, the word “businessperson” connotes men in white shirts and stranglehold neckties. That stereotype may have held true in the 1950s, but since then, the appearance factor of the business world has evolved substantially.

Take women. Hot women have always populated the business world in some shape or form. We tasked ourselves with compiling a list of the hottest businesswomen we could think of, for your viewing pleasure. These women are accomplished both in the business and the looks departments. Get acquainted with these hotties, outside of the cube–and outside of the pantsuit.”

Gay ‘zines on the rise in NYC

After seeing the site from my previous post, I remembered seeing an entry on Towleroad, about the rising number of gay ‘zines in NYC.  He references a story in New York Magazine, “New York-Based Gay Magazines Are Thriving”.

“The seventies saw the first rise in ’zine culture, and then again in the mid-eighties, when the plain-paper copier made life easier. But the last few years have definitely been a new phenomenon.” Bronson credits Butt magazine, founded in Amsterdam and now edited in New York, with influencing a new generation of titles that are at once arty and dirty

Above is a shot of Pinups, a photo zine featuring one or two men per issue, and the pages can be removed to form a large poster.

Here’s a list of some NYC ‘zines and their URLs, courtesy of Towleroad.com after the jump… Continue reading ‘Gay ‘zines on the rise in NYC’

PETA’s campaign to rename fish ’sea kittens’

Outspoken animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is using the “sea kitten” name as part of its push to restrict fishing.

“Nobody would hurt a sea kitten!” the group says on its website.

“People don’t seem to like fish.

“We’re going to start by retiring the old name for good.

“When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it’s time for a serious image makeover.”
