Q Mag is on break for summer but will be back in Fall 2009.

The segment, “What Would You Do?” places actors in real life situations to see how people react to uncomfortable circumstances.

In this episode of 20/20, two gay male actors were placed in a New Jersey straight sports bar to see how patrons reacted when the men were affectionate, and to see how they reacted to other placed actors who pretended to be homophobic. To the surprise of many, many patrons stood up to for the gay couple, with one man even saying “You are beautiful” to the couple.

Should we try this at Tully’s or somewhere?

Keepers at a bird sanctuary in West Sussex hoped that the last remaining female Blue Duck in the country - called Cherry - might mate with either of the drakes, Ben or Jerry. But neither male duck appeared interested and are now inseparable at the Arundel Wetland Centre, leaving Cherry to her own devices.

The openly gay screenwriter took home an Oscar tonight for ‘Milk’s script, and thanked Harvey Milk for inspiring him as a young teen:

BLACK: When I was 13 years old, my beautiful mother and my father moved me from a conservative Mormon home in San Antonio, Texas, to California, and I heard the story of Harvey Milk. And it gave me hope. It gave me the hope to live my life; it gave me the hope that one day I could live my life openly as who I am and that maybe even I could fall in love and one day get married. Most of all, if Harvey had not been taken from us 30 years ago, I think he’d want me to say to all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told they are less than by their churches, or by the government, or by their families, that you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value. And that no matter what everyone tells you, God does love you, and that very soon, I promise you, you will have equal rights federally across this great nation of ours.

Gay students at a suburban Chicago high school are planning their school’s first mixer for LGBT students.  I love the quotes the Chicago Tribune plucked out of them:

They wanted a splashy affair open to all students and neighboring schools, said senior Aliya de Grazia, 17, the club’s co-president.

“We’re working on a disco ball and disco lights,” de Grazia said.

“Full kitsch. People love kitsch,” quipped co-president David Norman, 17.

The Self-Hating Gays Who Will Wish Themselves Straight One Day / Queerty.

Sex columnist Dan Savage recently completed a college tour, accepting questions in person, as well as on 3×5 index cards to answer on his weekly column.  He traveled to University of Lethbridge, State University of New York–Albany, University of Maryland, and University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Wait, SUNY Albany?

I love Dan Savage, but you need have a reach school in there somewhere.  Dear Dan, stack up on extra-curriculars, run for class office, and take that SAT prep course.  We’ll see you at Binghamton in no time.

When did you first realize you were LGBTQ, and how did people react to that? Did you struggle to find support?

I didn’t realize I was L, B, T, and Q until I arrived in Albany. And I’m not sure how friends and family are going to react to my recently discovered lesbianism, bisexuality, impending transition, and questioning status—question: now that I’m LGB and T, what outstanding Qs could there be?—but I expect they will be supportive. Just as confused as I am, but nevertheless supportive.
