Portland Mayor Sam Adams decides to stay in office after controversy

Portland’s first openly-gay mayor Sam Adams has said he will not resign from his position after facing harsh criticism for an affair he had with an 18 year old intern in 2005.  Although the relationship was considered to be legal, Adams denied its existence throughout his campaign, and denounced it as a smear against him.

However, Adams revealed last week that that he had a consensual relationship with the then-18-year-old legislative intern named Beau Breedlove.  Adams said that they met when Breedlove was 17, but that they were not involved in a physical relationship until after Breedlove turned 18.

Commissioner Randy Leonard received a phone call from Adams at 8 am today that said, “Regardless of what you think about me and regardless of what you think about the veracity of what I’m saying, I deserve due process and I’m going to stay on.”

Porn moguls demand a piece of the bailout pie

If AIG, Citigroup, GM, Chrysler, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac got theirs, don’t economic powerhouses like Hustler and Girls Gone Wild deserve the same? Smut pioneer Larry Flynt and convicted felon Joe Francis seem to think so, arguing that it’s time for Congress to “rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America.”

With pornographic DVD sales down 22%, they plan to take their case for a taxpayer-funded revitalization of the porn industry to the tune of $5 billion all the way to Washington.

Flynt writes: “People are too depressed to be sexually active. This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex.”

Bush being awkward at the G8 summit

“The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: “Goodbye from the worlds biggest polluter.”

He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.”

Half of me thinks its refreshing to see big-shot politicians act as awkward as normal people. The better half of me cries inside, knowing that person is our president.
